Shell Remembrance Day

Shell

Live Event. Broadcast Television

The Bank created an event with Shell and The Royal British Legion to mark the beginning of Remembrance weekend.

Giant poppies were projected onto the river side of Shell Centre. Two original World War II aircraft were also commissioned to fly an unprecedented route down the River Thames, dropping three million poppy petals to mark those who had lost their lives during the two World Wars and subsequent conflicts.

Every bridge from Tower Bridge to Westminster Bridge was lit up in red, as well as other prominent landmarks like the London Eye and the National Theatre. London’s night skyline was turned red with spectacular projections. The light show ran for four nights through to Remembrance Sunday.

Gaining permissions was vital to the success of the event. Over 20 permissions were gathered, from sources including the CAA, MI5, MI6, Airspace Utilisation, police and local authorities, environmental agencies, transport authorities, Port Authority of London, and all of the Thames Bridge Authorities.

Network news programmes covered the spectacular event extensively across the UK.
