shoot first, focus later

Author : Caroline Teo – Photographer

Does anyone remember their first camera? Mine was a small 110 mini plastic spy camera, it has a retractable, plastic frame view finder, basically it was a small “point and shoot” rectangular, chunky key chain.

Unfortunately I lost it and never got the chance to develop that roll of film taken on my first trip to London. A couple of months ago, my colleague Lucy sent me a link to the Lytro website. “Introducing a new way to take and experience pictures.”

Its size and shape is reminiscent of a mini kaleidoscope, only rectangular and digital. But get this, you literally just have to point and shoot and worry about the focusing after. Without getting into technical know hows, this “Light field camera” allows you to tap on the area of the image(s) you took and choose the area of that you want in focus. You can now think even less when you’re taking a picture. Ok, shoot me.

Check it out. And if you end up getting one, let me know what you think and let me have a play!
